CAB works extremely closely with Bedford Borough Council and the office of the elected Mayor of Bedford to ensurr that the citizens of the Borough have access to the advice they need for the problems they face. The assistance Bedford Council provides starts with a contract for 1st line advice services, in addition to providing resources for a welfare benefit casework capability and a homelessness prevention specialist. In addition we also have funding for two years for an energy advice specialist. The House of Industry charity is run by the Borough which provides additional resources for housing and debt services.

Citizens Advice Bedford provides foodbank vouchers which clients can then redeem at Bedford Foodbank. CAB is well places to deliver this service due to the high footfall of low-income clients and those going through a crisis we see. Bedford Foodbank provides three days’ worth of nutritionally balanced emergency food, supported by the Trussel Trust working to combat poverty and hunger. We have an adviser who works directly with Foodbank clients to identify any immediate crises and discuss long term sustainability with clients, again offering our full range of services to optimise income, minimise outgoings and addressing long term reliance on the Foodbank service.
